Nike Shox represents a cushioning system composed of hollow polyurethane columns that was developed for professional athletes. The development of this technology took more than 15 years – the first experiments with mechanical cushioning were initiated in 1984 by designer Bruce Kilgore, creator of the legendary Nike Air Force 1. He found inspiration watching runners on indoor tracks who appeared to "bounce back" upon impact with the surface.
